What is the Emergent Church?

For those who are would like to know, Brian McLaren has recently finished a series of sermons on the subject. They can be found here http://www.crcc.org/converse/talks.htm. If for some reason you don't want to listen to all of them, I highly recommend the last part of the September 25th sermon - What Is The Emerging Church? Artistic (starting at about the 19:50 mark). It's more about history and intra-Christian relations than about art.

I listened to the twelve minutes you suggested. Interesting. In some ways it sounds like my life since I work in an interdenominational group, so I'm familiar with finding ways to embrace the things in common between different religious groups.

Aside--As I was thinking about listening, I said to myself, "But I don't want to just sit here idle and listen. I need to be doing something else at the same time, like knitting. Too bad I don't knit." A moment later my daughter walked in and asked me to hem something. So I did. And I listened.

Good timing by your daughter.

I'm sure that working for an interdenominational group has been a good experience for you.

But we should do more than embrace the things in common - we should appreciate and learn form the differences, and be less eager to rule others as being outside our "We the correct Christians" club.
