Book Review: A Generous Orthodoxy Part 25 of ??
Emergent
Emergent is a leadership network of (according to its website) "missional Christian leaders." This group was known as Leadership Network's Young Leader Networks when McLaren was invited to join it in 1996 as the network's "old guy." McLaren writes that he can't remember who in the Young Leader Networks came up with Emergent as their new name. Here's a link that shows who's in Emergent's leadership.
McLaren writes that emergent can be compared to the rings on a tree. As a new ring emerges, it "embraces, enfolds, integrates, and consolidates the gains of the previous ones and then extends those gains into new territories." McLaren notes that no emergence is perfect. Some old things that should be kept are forgotten, and some new things that should be rejected are kept.
The current emergence, according to McLaren, will not get it all right. It is not even a superior form of Christianity anymore than, "a senior citizen finally gets it right in comparison to a middle-aged mother." McLaren continues, "Thus a generous orthodoxy is an emerging orthodoxy, never complete until we arrive at our final home in God."

OK, my comment isn't about your post, but about your blog, which I notice is getting more and more complicated. Maybe you should be a computer programmer when you grow up. Better than just sitting there all paralyzed (which is to say, I noticed your new tag line :-)
I've just added a counter and the TTLB Ecosystem thing since "Blog Improvements" post.
Everything was simple copy and paste, except for my "Categories" which are simply links to back-dated posts. No programming for me.
My tagline works on so many levels (which is to say at least four).
On another note....have the Mav's lost yet with my man Diop starting?!?! Don't think so brother!!!
That's true, but it was Dampier's defense on Gasol in the 4th quarter that allowed the Mavs too come back.
