New Poll (Sorta)
1. Ohio St. (12-0) - Just give them the trophy now.
2. USC (9-1) - They're number 2 for now, but the must keep playing well.
3. Michigan (11-1) - Interesting argument: Michigan vs. USC. Michigan's loss was to a better team (although it really wasn't as close as the score was), but overall I think USC has played a tougher schedule.
4. West Virginia (9-1) - Still Underrated.
5. Louisville (9-1) - Also underrated.
6-20. They're pretty much all the same.

actually, i'm thinking the entire Big East is overrated. WV loses to Louisville, LU loses to Rutgers, RU loses to Cincinnati... besides Rutgers, none of them have even a decent defense. I don't see them winning more than half their games if they were playing in the SEC or Big 12. Oklahoma and Texas would destroy them. I didn't want to pull Rutgers down until they lost, every team deserves the benefit of the doubt if they're undefeated, but once they lose, especially to Cincy, they're gone. Boise State should play in a top BCS bowl, if for no other reason than to give them a shot to see what they can do against the big boys.
I think Louisville and West Virginia are very good teams. Louisville at least has played a decent schedule, easily beating Kentucky (who has a winning record in the SEC), winning at Kansas St. (who is bowl eligible and beat Texas), and Miami (before they completely collapsed) besides their conference schedule.
Sure neither one has a great defense, but they don't need one too much, and especially for West Virginia their fast strike offense might make their defense look worse than it is (by giving the other team more opportunities). I think they'd go through any conference with only one or two losses. They certainly are as good as Texas.
I think Rutgers is fairly good, though not as good as the other two (just how good is hard to say), played their best game against Louisville and had a classic letdown game against Cincinnati. It'll be interesting to see how they rebound.
good points by all... Louisville in my opinion is basically even with West Virginia and Rutgers, i can't get over what the Rutgers defense did to Louisville in the 2nd half. That said, I would put them all around 10th best in the nation... i don't see how they could consistently stay with a USC (who has more team speed in their offensive line than any of the Big East teams have at any position, outside of Morgantown) or a Texas or a Michigan or a Florida or an OU. Neither West Va or Louisville has played a good defense beside perhaps Miami, but Miami's offense made it hard on their defense in that game. I don't see Louisville or WV scoring consistenly more than 15-20 points against a good defense like the above-mentioned teams have. And we all know that their defenses would easily give up more than 20 points. In 10 games, they would probably win about 3 against those teams.
also, this year is a prime example of the downside of a playoff system... Ohio State is the only team besides Boise State to go undefeated and we would punish them by making them play a bunch of 1 or 2 loss teams. Some years there is ample reasons for a playoff system, this year is not one of them.
Darius, I definitely agree with you about a playoff system for this year, (in fact you're almost to my proposed system for deciding the college football champion, which I'm still keeping a secret for now).
I think less of the Big 12 this year than you seem to though.
Ryan, I agree USC is overrated if you compare them to top teams of previous years, there's fewer elite teams this season. But, as I think you were alluding someone has to be ranked up there.
well, so much for West Virginia being overrated... losing to South Florida at this point in the season is unacceptable... i haven't seen where they ended up in the polls, but they should drop out of the top 15.
Losing at the end of the season shouldn't matter more than losing at any other time.
I think West Virginia is a top 5 team talent-wise, but they give away 2 games with turnovers.
