Top 10 Update

1. Ohio St. (10-0) - Had their first less than stellar game last week.

3. Louisville (8-0) - Win over West Virginia puts them on track for the BCS title game. Interesting game Thursday at Rutgers. No one deserves to be number 2, so I have them tied for number 3.

3. Michigan (10-0) - Playing down to the competition, or just not that good?

4. West Virginia (7-1) - Showed alot in their lost at Louisville.

5. Florida (8-1) - Same comment as Michigan's.

6. LSU (7-2) - As much physical talent as anyone in the country. They jump over California because they won where (at Tennessee) California couldn't.

7. California (8-1) - Rebounded from needing overtime to beat Washington to handling UCLA.

8. Texas (9-1) - They look alot better at home.

9. Auburn (9-1) - They look alot better playing Arkansas St.

10. USC (7-1) - Beat Stanford who is in a tight race with Duke for being the worst team in a BCS conference.

Also considered: none.

I accidently editted last week's instead of making a new post. So that's why those comments are there.

no, he's posting in the past about future events... so, who wins this week between OU and Texas Tech?

OU should win, but they've had fumbling issues. Tech is down a little this year.

OU should win just because the football gods owe them from last year's TT game. That was just as bad as the Oregon game this year, but because it wasn't shown nationally, people don't know about it.

Rutgers was incredible, that defense is top 10, and easily the most overachieving one in the country. They should jump to top 5, but I am guessing they'll actually be about 8th.

The Big East has been a surprise. I really wasn't expecting Rutgers to beat Louisville, that'll really mess things up. I'm not sure what to do with them.

what a college football Saturday!! Texas, California, and Auburn all losing to double digit underdogs. Amazing! Rutgers might just be top 4 in the BCS.. they were 9th in the computers PRIOR to Thursday's game... they beat #3, have 3 teams ahead of them lose, and national respect in the human polls... spells top 4 to me... my guess is the BCS will be:

1. Ohio State
2. Michigan
3. Florida
4. Rutgers or USC (assuming USC holds on to win against Oregon)

Amazing, in 3 days time, Rutgers goes from nothing to serious national champion implications...

And Florida really should have lost. I don't expect Rutgers to be that high in the BCS.

They will be behind USC (barring a collapse against Oregon), they will be behind Notre Dame, it's also very possible they'll be behind West Virginia, Arkansas, and Louisville. It all depends how high they get moved up in the voting polls obviously (I figure 8th is the best they are likely to get in the voting polls).

My BCS guess:

1. Ohio St.
2. Michigan
3. Florida
4. USC
5. Notre Dame
6. Arkansas
7. Rutgers
8. West Virginia
9. Louisville
10. LSU

the reason i expect Rutgers to be top 5 is that the computers already had Rutgers 9th before this week's games... basically they're just waiting for the human polls to catch up with what the computers already "know". So, assuming that their win against Louisville impressed the voters, they should see a significant jump in the ratings. They will jump Louisville, West Virginia, LSU, maybe Arkansas (suddenly they are back in the race), California, Texas, Auburn, and just missed catching Notre Dame. So that probably does put them only 6th... but everyone knows that Florida isn't going to win out, and Michigan or Ohio State will lose, and Notre Dame hopefully will lose, considering they were whooped by a bad Michigan State team until the last few minutes. Rutgers has a couple different ways of making it to the championship game; if they impressively beat West Virginia and the other teams look average, or if all but one of the teams ahead of them loses. Beating a top 10 team really will help their standings.

Their computer ranking will help, but it will only move them up a spot or two from what they are in the two voting polls. I still think they have it were the two pools count (by points, not rank) for a third each and the computer average counts as a third.

Florida could win out, they only real issues is the SEC Championship. Notre Dame will probably lose to USC, but Rutgers really needs USC to lose as well.
The Ohio St./Michigan loser is also not guaranteed to drop below Rutgers.

But I expect West Virginia to beat Rutgers.

true on all counts, but I really doubt that the pollsters will want to keep the Michigan/Ohio State loser up near the top so as to avoid a rematch in the championship game, unless it's a really good, close game.

Either way, Rutgers needs a lot of help, but you have to admit, it's the best story in college football for many years...

interesting... the computers now have Michigan 1st, Rutgers 2nd, Ohio State 3rd... that's amazing... but not too surprising, considering Ohio State really hasn't played anyone outside of Texas early in the year.

My BCS guess was fairly close considering all that happened in the week. The computers having Rutgers ahead of Michigan is showing the Big 10 (specifically Ohio St.'s schedule) no respect. But maybe that's how it should be.

here's an interesting way to look at it... Rutgers beat Illinois 33-0, and it wasn't even that close. Ohio State nearly lost to Illinois in a very tight game...

Well for one thing, the computers aren't allowed by the BCS to consider margin of victory (so Ohio St's win at Illinois is probably seen as better than Rutgers' win over them at home).

In Sargin's poll that the BCS uses Rutgers is 2 and Ohio St is 3, but in his real poll (which includes margin of victory) Ohio St. is 1 and Rutgers is 9.

It's also an unfortunate comparison because it was clearly Ohio St.'s worst game of the season. They beat Minnesota (who's better than Illinois) 44-0, and they beat Indiana (who's about the same as Illinois) 44-3. Rutgers has had some close games against lesser competition themselves.
